David Archuleta Gets A Record Deal

American Idol runner-up David Archuleta has landed a record deal with 19 Recordings/Jive Records, a label rep announced Thursday. The 17-year-old — who will perform on the upcoming Idol tour (kicking off July 1) — will release a debut album later this year.

"Signing a record contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records is truly a dream come true," he said in a statement. "Being a fan of American Idol since season one and admiring the alumni, I am honored and humbled to be a part of that group. I'm really excited to start working on everything."

After losing out to David Cook on the May Idol finale, Archuleta told Us, "I was pretty sure Cook was going to win anyway! "I didn’t think I’d even make it past the first round!" he said. "This has been such a blessing."
