James Garner To Soon Be Released From Hospital After Stroke

Actor James Garner is expected to leave a hospital shortly after having suffered a minor stroke. The veteran Maverick and The Rockford Files star, 80, was hospitalized Friday after feeling ill, the Associated Press reports. "He's still in the hospital, but my understanding is he is doing well and will be going home soon," says Garner's publicist. "When, exactly, we have not been told yet."

James most recently played Katey Sagal's father in the sitcom 8 Simple Rules. In 2005, he was honored with the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by his Maverick movie costar Mel Gibson and Garner's Americanization of Emily costar Julie Andrews.

My favorite roles James Garner ever played were as Duke in The Notebook in 2004 and as Shep Walker in Divine Secrets Of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood in 2002. I am glad that he is being released from the hospital soon.
