An Anna Nicole Tribute

It's exactly one year to the day since Anna Nicole Smith passed away from an accidental prescription drug overdose, but the soap opera that surrounded the larger-than-life star lives on. Anna Nicole and her son, Daniel, are gone, but they've had a cast of visitors at their Bahamas gravesite over the past few days.

The former Playboy Playmate's estranged mother, Virgie Arthur, visited Anna Nicole's grave on January 31, leaving flowers and planting a kiss on her daughter's and grandson's graves. On the same day, Anna Nicole's 17-month-daughter, Dannielynn, was brought to Anna Nicole's plot by her dad, Larry Birkhead.

Anna Nicole was just 39 when she died in Florida, but some say that she left this world even earlier than that, when her beloved son, Daniel, died in her Bahamas hospital room in September 2006 of an overdose. The inquest into Daniel's death resumes in the Bahamas on March 17, when witnesses including Larry and Anna Nicole's companion, Howard K. Stern, are expected to testify.

Also coming up are hearings in Los Angeles over a petition to have Dannielynn declared her mother's sole heir. And the battle over the estate of Anna Nicole's late husband, J. Howard Marshall, continues to drag out. Depending on how it is resolved, Dannielynn could inherit a chunk of the late oil tycoon's multimillion-dollar estate.

Like her idol, Marilyn Monroe, Anna Nicole wanted her memory to live on, but it's unlikely that having her name bandied about in courtrooms across the world is quite what she intended. Today, Larry posted the following message to Anna Nicole on his website: I LOVE YOU AND HOPE YOU ARE PROUD OF OUR BEAUTIFUL BABY GIRL. PLEASE WATCH OVER US AND GUIDE US ON OUR JOURNEY THROUGH LIFE. WE MISS YOU.
