Meet Harlow Winter Kate Madden

Meet Nicole Richie and Joel Madden’s daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden born on January 1l, 2007. Here are some highlights for the article in People Magazine and some photos.

Looking back a year ago:
J: [Parenthood] was not in the plans. But it's the best thing that's ever happened to us. It was a gift from God. It was a big surprise but neither one of us even skipped a beat.
N: Yeah, it was never a bad thing. It's weird -- even though we had only been together a few months, we had lightly talked about having a family. I think we always knew.
J: We just get each other. We're both laid-back people. It's never been a job to be in this relationship.

How Nicole told Joel she was pregnant:
N: I picked a really bad time! I couldn't hold it in. He was flying from Japan to Europe, so right before he gets on a 16-hour flight I was like, "I have to tell you something."

On the pregnancy:
N: I didn't have morning sickness, and I was waiting for it. I was tired a lot but that was really the only thing. And according to [Joel], my hormones were really bad.
J: Nicole is really laid-back. You can tell her anything and she's like, "Whatever." And that was the first time I'd seen her get worked up. I'd be like, "Whoa, this is not the girl that I know." Like, if I was late -- which is usually no big deal -- it was like, "Where were you? You know that I've been waiting here, you couldn't even think to call?" It was cute.

On the labor and delivery:
J: The whole pregnancy -- the whole thing was easy. Well, I'm not saying the birth was easy for you.
N: It actually was! I just didn't feel well [when I was going into labor].
J: She was like, "I think it's going to be soon, so let's go while it's 2 a.m." So we snuck into the hospital [on Thursday night]...
N: And we just settled until I had the baby [on Friday afternoon]. It was really mellow. I don't know [how long I was in labor], because I don't know what time I actually went into labor, but I pushed for 10 minutes. Three pushes and she was out.
J: She came out and she was crying. The doctor goes, 'Well, it looks like you got a little girl!'
N: I cried right away.
J: Right when she came out, you know that cry that's like an internal cry where you shake a little bit? [To Harlow] You made me cry!
N: She came out, and I just knew she looked like me, and I was holding her, and it was something that was so much bigger than me. Now she looks a little more like Joel, but when she was born, it looked like Joel had nothing to do with it.
J: Thank God she looks like Nicole!
N: They put her right on my chest and I breastfed her. I didn't know anything about breastfeeding, so I fed her for 35 minutes on one side! And the doctor was like, "You should probably switch sides."
I feel like a superhero. I have such a newfound respect for my body.

Post delivery:
N: Well, right after I had her, I remember saying to Joel, "I need food. Get me apples."
J: I ordered her a steak.
N: I don't know what I was asking for but I felt like I was going to die. [Harlow stirs on Joel's chest] She woke up for the story. She likes this story!
J: [to Harlow]: This is the story of how you were born!

On her newfound breasts:
N: He's enjoying it! I don't really like it. It doesn't really fit with my wardrobe; it's not who I am. I never had to think about wearing a bra, so it's a whole new world. But you know, whatever.
J: I like you both ways.

On choosing their daughter's name:
N: I wanted a hippie name and he wanted a more biblical name.
J: I really like Jean Harlow the actress, and she likes Shalom Harlow the model. Harlow's cool because it feels like a classic name.
N: And no one has it.
J: Winter [is] so serene and quiet and that's how she is.
N: I always liked the name Kate, but I knew I'd never name my kid that [as a first name] because it was just too plain.

On milestones:
N: Well, actually [Joel's identical twin] Benji [got the first smile].
J: Now it happens all the time. We live for her smiles. When she smiles ...
N: We feel so good. I don't know if it was this morning -- my days are blended -- but I was watching her in her crib and she happened to wake up and I was like, "Good morning!" And she smiled and it was the cutest thing ever.

On the importance of family:
J: We don't have a nanny. We have our moms. They've helped us a lot.
N: And we have to give credit to Benji. He lives six houses down. He babysits, like really babysits.
J: There was a day when I'd been at work all day and Nicole hadn't left the house for 48 hours, and I was like, "Let's go to a restaurant down the street," and Benj was with the baby. Then someone said they read somewhere we were out all the time. It's crazy. You leave the house for one hour and everyone's like, "She's out! She's leaving the baby!"
[Also,] Lionel's a great granddad. He's the best. She loves him. You have to be around Lionel to see how he is. He's just happy.
N: I just think without even consciously talking about it, the family has gotten closer. [Harlow] is really the focus, and everyone has the same goal: to love her and to make her happy.
When Joel and I got together, he was always like, "Let's go to your dad's, let's go to your mom's," so we started going over there more. My dad always says Joel really brought the family together. [Joel blushes.]

On Harlow meeting Paris Hilton:
N: Yeah. They went to the Ivy. Just kidding. I have to say, all of my friends, their demeanor completely changes when they're around the baby. When they come in the house they're really mellow and careful and sweet with her. And when you're with a baby, you don't think, like, "Oh, I'm this person." She spits up on you and throws up on you or goes to the bathroom or passes gas.

On their future:
N: We wear matching bands, but we're not married. We're committed to Harlow and we're committed to our family.

Amy Winehouse's Husband Blake Pleads Not Guilty

Amy Winehouse failed to turn up to court in London Friday to see her husband Blake Fielder-Civil plead not guilty to charges stemming from a pub brawl. Blake’s mother Georgette, a fixture at his court dates, also did not appear.

The normally merry Fielder-Civil – dressed in a gray Gap sweatshirt and jeans – was subdued during the two-hour hearing. He pleaded not guilty to conspiring to pervert the course of justice, a charge which arose from his being accused of causing grievous bodily harm to a pub landlord in June 2006.

A source close to Amy says, "She's a mess at the moment. I don't think she's visiting him much either." Blake is allowed two visits per week while incarcerated. And because of Amy's fame, the couple's visits are no longer held in the prison's communal area, which the source describes as "like a really nasty [cafeteria]."

Amy moved to a new apartment in London's Camden neighborhood on Wednesday as a hearing on her and Blake’s appeal of a fine for marijuana possession was postponed. On Thursday, British music magazine NME announced at its annual awards ceremony that she'd won its worst-dressed award. She did not attend the ceremony.

Scrubs Moving From NBC To ABC

Longtime NBC comedy Scrubs is heading to rival network ABC. Sources say ABC is in negotiations to pick up 18 episodes of the show from Disney corporate sibling ABC Studios, which has produced the series for NBC since 2001. ( is a joint venture between NBC Universal and Microsoft.) A broadcast show switching networks, though often discussed during contract renewals, is a rare event. Previous network jumpers include JAG (NBC to CBS) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (The WB to UPN).

The writers strike cut short NBC’s 18-episode final-season order for the Zach Braff medical comedy to 12 episodes. Sources say the network has been reluctant to order additional episodes for next fall, citing the fact that it already has some fresh episodes in the can. NBC reportedly floated various end game scenarios to producers, including ordering one final episode, or producing the remaining episodes direct to DVD.

Details of the ABC deal are still being hammered out as contracts for most cast members and writers have not been picked up beyond the current season. After struggling in recent years to launch a hit comedy, ABC scored this season with Christina Applegate freshman Samantha Who? The Scrubs pickup will give ABC another half-hour title with a built-in audience, and it makes financial sense for Disney.

It’s been a rocky ride for Scrubs on NBC. The network has repeatedly shifted the critically praised but modestly rated show around its schedule. For the past two seasons, NBC also waited until the 11th hour to pick up the comedy series with partial season orders. Most recently, Scrubs has aired as part of NBC’s Thursday night lineup along with The Office, My Name Is Earl and 30 Rock, where the medical comedy was often the lowest-rated of the bunch.

Two Doctors Cleared In Heath Ledger Investgation

Federal investigators have cleared two doctors in California and Texas of any wrongdoing in the death of actor Heath Ledger. The Drug Enforcement Agency interviewed the doctors earlier this week about prescriptions found in Heath’s apartment and determined they did not prescribe him the two most powerful drugs – Oxycontin and Vicodin, the New York Post reports. The doctors did meet with Heath but prescribed him other medications, according to investigators.

Heath died on January 22 in his Manhattan apartment from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. Soon after the medical examiner released his cause of death, the DEA issued subpoenas to try to determine if there were medical conditions attached to all the drugs found in his apartment. That investigation is still ongoing.

Besides Oxycodone and Vicodin (also known as Hydrocodone), autopsy results also showed that Ledger's system contained Diazepam (commonly called Valium), as well as Temazepam, which treats anxiety or sleeplessness; Alprazolam (also known as Xanax); and Doxylamine, a sedating antihistamine often used as a sleeping aid.

Brit's Boys Doing Well During Visits

Britney Spears is spending more quality time with her sons. Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 17 months, spent more time at their mother's house on Wednesday morning – the third visit Britney has had with her children since lawyers for the singer and her ex-husband Kevin Federline reached a visitation agreement on February 22.

Britney's recent visits with her boys have been full of hugs and affection, PEOPLE reports. "Kids this age are amazingly resilient, and the very close bond that Britney has with her children is apparent," a source tells PEOPLE. On Saturday, Britney reunited with her sons for the first time since she was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center January 3. She also had another visit with them Monday.

According to the source, Britney's father, Jamie, and psychiatrist Dr. Lee Sadja have been monitoring the visits between the boys and Britney, who has had two stints in the hospital this year. Sadja began treating the singer during her most recent hospitalization at the UCLA Medical Center psych ward.

Lynne Spears Singing Praises Of Ex-Husband, Jamie

Britney Spears's mom, Lynne, has been praising her ex-husband, Jamie, who has taken control of their troubled daughter's affairs. "Jamie had to change his whole routine. Lynne sings his praises. He has been such a rock. He has stepped up to the plate," a family friend tells PEOPLE. "He's gathered a team of reputable people who are around [Britney] now. She's not well, but for the first time in a long time she has people around her who really care about her."

As for how Lynne is coping with having her daughter in and out of the hospital, the friend says, "She's up and down. It's a roller coaster ride as a mother." Plus, Lynne also wants to spend time with her pregnant 16-year-old daughter, Jamie Lynn, who lives in Kentwood, Louisiana, the source says. "She has to spend time between Los Angles. and Kentwood. As a mother she feels needed in both places. She's doing whatever she can to help both girls. She's got that maternal instinct, and it's in high gear."

One positive step for the family has been Britney's recent visits with her sons, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 17 months. "Lynne talked to Jamie, and he said it was a good visit," says the source. "[Britney] slipped into that motherly mode. They picked up right where they left off. She still has a long way to go [to get better], but that's what we hope and pray for ... Lynne and Jamie want their child to be whole again."

The Spice Girls' Final Farewell

It's official! Using their song lyrics and blog, the Spice Girls bid a final farewell Wednesday to cap the conclusion of their successful reunion tour. "Our time is up ... we've come to the end of the road ... there are tears of both sadness and joy. Look how far we've come!," the group wrote on their Web site. "Yes, our reunion tour is proof that dreams do come true."

The letter to fans on the Spice blog was signed with love from Emma [Bunton], Geri [Halliwell], Mel B [Brown], Melanie C [Chisolm] and Victoria [Beckham] after concluding a song best summed up their feelings: "Goodbye my friend, it's not the end ... So glad we made it, time will never ever change it ... "

The Spice Girls, who last year reunited for the first time since 1998 and completed shows in Europe and the United States, closed their tour with a show in Toronto Tuesday night. They were originally scheduled to go to Australia and South America, but family obligations and an already overextended timeline wouldn't allow for it.

As for whether the Spice Girls are done for good or just taking another break, the ladies write, "We look to the future with hope and imagination and let Girl Power live on through all of you as it will continue in us and the future generations to come."

Britney's Case Back In State Court

A federal judge on Tuesday rejected a civil rights challenge in Britney Spears's conservatorship case, allowing the pop star's father to maintain his temporary control of her $100 million estate. U.S. District Judge Philip Gutierrez returned the case to state probate court and sent a rebuke to the lawyer who launched the challenge, Jon Eardley, who had claimed to represent Britney.

"Mr. Eardley fails to explain why he can bring this claim for her in the first instance. He cannot," Gutierrez said in his three-page ruling. "Mr. Eardley had no authority to remove the case from state court. He is neither a party nor a defendant. While he claims to be Ms. Spears's attorney, the probate court ... found that she was incapable of retaining her own counsel."

The ruling was a victory for Britney’s father, Jamie, who was named as a temporary co-conservator of her estate by the California probate court after Britney was placed under an involuntary, emergency hold at the UCLA Medical Center's psychiatric ward late last month. As temporary co-conservator, Jamie has great influence over the pop star's fortune as well as her day-to-day activities.

In a highly publicized move, Eardley, a lawyer with practices in Washington, D.C., New York and Whittier, California, filed a complaint in U.S. District Court on behalf of Britney. He lashed out against the conservatorship as a "violation of [Spears's] civil rights," and requested the case be moved from California state court to a federal court.

Jamie Spears and the other temporary co-conservator, attorney Andrew Wallet, had called Eardley's move "a brazen – but vain – attempt to strip a probate court of jurisdiction ... by an attorney without a client."

Bad Fashion

Julianne Moore (in 6267) and the Diamond Information Center (DIC) host a private dinner to honor designers, diamonds & Hollywood glamour at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. But, she lacked glamour. The Asian style dress with the high neckline and below the knee hem line looked like an old lady. Also the shows… street walker.

Katie Holmes at the 10th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards Show held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. She is 29 not 59 what is up with this look. The hair makes her look older as it is and now she is wearing a dress my mother would say looks too old for her. Bad choice Tommy. (I know he picked it.)

Molly Sims of the NBC hit Las Vegas worked an origami-style Katy Rodriguez green dress, Christian Louboutin heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewels at the de Grisogono's Hollywood Domino Board Game Launch. But, sorry it looked like a Christmas present come to late with the crazy top part and color.

Nicole Kidman at The Golden Compass Press Conference in Tokyo, Japan. Nicole is 4-5 months pregnant and not even showing because she isn’t showing no pregnancy pass on this outfit. Nicole I know you can do better, you usually do.

Lipstick Jungle Gets 6 More Episodes

NBC's show Lipstick Jungle received an order of six extra episodes. This means that the series will get a first season of 13 episodes. TV Guide reveals that the series, based on the book of the same name written by Sex In The City author Candace Bushnell, is winning its timeslot among women of the 18-49 and 18-34 categories.

Lipstick Jungle stars Brooke Shields, Lindsay Price, and Kim Raver, as a trio of friends who help one another through the problems faced at work and with their family members. The drama may not be the best series out there but, thanks to a schedule where most shows are in reruns, it found a good following of fans.

The real test will be when the show must face real competition. It's unlikely it will stay in the same timeslots when those extra six episodes air, NBC will more than likely put ER back in its timeslot when ABC starts to air Lost at 10 p.m. on Thursdays. Lipstick will have to up the ante and offer better episodes if they want viewers to stay glued to NBC instead of switching channels to watch new episodes of their favorite shows.

I wasn’t sure I was going to like Lipstick Jungle when it first aired, but now I am addicted. It is marked to record on my DVR every week. I really love this show.
