Jerry Orbach Gets A Street Named After Him

A stretch of 53rd Street at Eighth Avenue has been renamed for Broadway and TV star Jerry Orbach, who died in 2004 at 69. Jerry's widow, Elaine Orbach, unveiled the new street sign at a ceremony Monday attended by actors including Richard Belzer and Robert Klein. Nominated for three Tony Awards, Jerry originated the roles of El Gallo in The Fantasticks, Billy Flynn in Chicago and he was Baby's daddy in Dirty Dancing. He was known more recently as Detective Lennie Briscoe on the NBC television series Law & Order.

I loved Detective Lenny Brisco… when he left the show not long before his passing I stopped watching it. It was never same and never will be.
