George Clooney Talks About Motorcycle Accident

George Clooney knows he and girlfriend Sarah Larson were fortunate to escape their motorcycle accident with minor injuries. "I feel pretty lucky we got out of it," George told PEOPLE at the premiere of Michael Clayton on Monday night. "It's scary," he added. "We never really saw it coming." George's Burn After Reading costar, Brad Pitt, himself a cyclist, sent Clooney a message after hearing about the accident. "How bad?" asked Brad. "Not so bad," replied George.

According to police George was driving his Harley-Davidson north on Boulevard East in Weehawken, New Jersey, at 3:30 p.m. when he collided with a 1999 Mazda Millenia. George who was accompanied by Sarah was passing on the right of the vehicle as it attempted to make a right turn on the two-lane road. The actor explained: "They signaled left and went right ... We got hit." George suffered a hairline fracture of a rib and road rash, and Sarah broke her big toe.

"She seems like she can take it, huh?" George said of Sarah, who looked gorgeous and graceful on her crutches. Sarah made her debut as George’s new gal at the Venice and Deauville film festivals earlier this month. At the Manhattan premiere, George said that he took Sarah on the motorcycle because he wanted to show her the city from a different perspective. "We wanted to get the view of New York from that side," he said.
