Remembering Elvis Presley Part 3

Now it is time to put the spotlight on Elvis’ pride and joy, daughter Lisa Marie. She was the light of his life and today we talk about her and show images of her with her father. Enjoy…

Lisa Marie Presley was born on February 1, 1968, nine months to the day of her parents wedding. She is the only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley. As she grew up, Lisa became aware of her father's popularity. She understood that when Elvis was around, things got done. She adopted this attitude and ran Graceland as the princess of the mansion. She would have the staff and everyone around her fulfilling every wish, yet her mother Priscilla, struggled to have Lisa grow up in a "normal" setting. She lived at Graceland from 1968 to 1972 until her parents divorced. After the split Lisa mostly with her mother in Los Angeles and visited Graceland often. Priscilla was strict and had Lisa on a schedule while Elvis let her run wild. During one of Lisa’s visits on August 16, 1977 Elvis passed away. At 9-year-old Lisa’s father was gone. Life after Elvis was tough for Lisa and in 1979, Lisa’s grandfather, Vernon Presley (Elvis' father) passed away.

By Lisa’s teen years she had become very difficult and Priscilla sent her to many school to try and find a place Lisa would grow up healthy and happy. That did not happen. Lisa dropped out in the 11th grade. Priscilla decided to put Lisa in a Scientology based school that would teach Lisa self help and discipline. There she met her future husband Danny Keough. They married on October 3, 1988 and were married for 6 years before divorcing. They had two children together, Danielle Riley and Benjamin Storm who they stayed close to raise. They remain friends today.

On January 8, 1993 Lisa attended an Elvis stamp celebration. This would have been Elvis’ 58th birthday. This was a big deal because it was the first event she would attend publicly in honor of her father. Soon after this Lisa married Michael Jackson. We all know how this goes odd and creepy. Luckily it only lasted a year and a half and they did NOT have any children. On the 20th anniversary of her father’s death (August 16, 1997) Lisa performed a “duet” with her father through the beauty of technology. They performed one of Elvis’ songs “Don’t Cry Daddy”. Just under a year later in June of 1998 Lisa signed a recording contract with Java Records. Her album would not be released until April of 2003. Lisa Marie married her third husband actor, Nicholas Cage on August 12, 2002 in Hawaii. The marriage was short lived ending in divorce after only 3 months. Lisa later called it “a big mistake”. On the 25th anniversary of Elvis’ death Lisa performed a song from her upcoming album about her father called “Nobody Noticed It”. The crowd once again loved Lisa.

The year 2003 finally brought Lisa’s album. “To Whom It May Concern” hit store shelves on April 8th. It went gold quickly. Her second album “Now What” was released April 5th, 2005. Lisa married for the fourth time on January 22, 2006 in Kyoto, Japan. She married her producer and guitarist, Michael Lockwood. Her first husband, Danny, was best man.

Now some images of Elvis, Lisa and Priscilla. Enjoy...
